Welcome back to my blog! ♥
My week so far has been a pretty stressful one – I hope you’re all having a much better week than I am! I’ve finally found some time to sit and write a very exciting review I’ve been planning: the Pixi flawless & poreless face primer!
I’m a huge fan of Pixi’s products and had been wanting to try out this primer for such a long time. If you’re new to my blog – I have an oily skin type and find it difficult to find a primer/foundation that limits the oil. I was pleased to find this primer, as it claims to minimise the appearance of pores (mine are quite enlarged around my upper cheeks, nose and forehead and I can’t stand it) and create a ‘flawless’ complexion.
It’s priced at £24 for 30ml which I’d say is a mid-range price – the question is, is it worth it?
The formula itself is a light, nude coloured cream which becomes super soft and velvety as you rub it in. I was a little unsure at first whether I would like the product, as it does contain silica. Unfortunately primers containing silica are prone to causing your foundation to simply slide off of your skin, so I made sure not to apply more than a coin-sized amount to my entire face.
I was pretty impressed with how the primer felt once applied to my face. Rather than feeling oily/slippery, it actually had a bit of ‘stickiness’ to it which meant my foundation and concealer sat really well on top of it and there wasn’t any ‘sliding around’ business going on.
My pores were visibly reduced but I wouldn’t say my face appeared poreless after application. You’d definitely have to incorporate other skincare products that target pore reduction into your routine as well as the Pixi primer – it won’t do they job by itself.
Having said that, one of the ingredients in this primer is the much-loved salicylic acid. This acid does wonders for your skin in terms of blemish clearing and unclogging your pores. So although it doesn’t necessary make your pores vanish, it works hard to clear your complexion whilst you go about your day! I really love a product that can multi-task so this primer has a thumbs up from me in that department.
In terms of prolonging my makeup, I have found that my under-eye concealer has stayed on for much longer than usual. After a long day at work I normally come home to find my makeup has completely worn off and wonder why I even bothered applying it in the first place. Thanks to Pixi’s primer, it did appear to still be almost in-tact.
In terms of oil production, the formula also contains willow bark which is known for its oil-absorbent qualities. I’d definitely say there’s been a small reduction in oil production on my face. I usually notice a big build up by lunch time but since using the primer I haven’t become aware of any excess oil until much later in the day.
So, is the Pixi flawless & poreless face primer worth it?
If you’ve got MEGA oily skin then I don’t think this primer would do enough for you to control oil production, but combination to oily skin would certainly benefit from using this under or over makeup.
It creates a lovely semi-matte finish on your skin and sticks very well with concealer and foundation, ensuring they don’t slide off of your face. My makeup has lasted longer and my oil production has been reduced, therefore eliminating much more shine. I haven’t needed to top-up with finishing powder as often as I did before!
My only practical improvement would be the bottle itself – I feel as though a pump would be much easier because I can tell I won’t be able to get all of the product out from inside this.
Thank you so much for reading my review, I hope I’ve answered any questions you may have pre-purchase of this primer or potentially persuaded you to go ahead and buy it!
If so, you can actually find this product on the Birchbox website for around £4 off of the usual price if you’ve signed up to Birchbox! (Go and read my February Birchbox review for more information about this beauty subscription service).

This is a great review! This sounds like a really good primer, specially if it does help make pores appear smaller! X

I absolutely adore the Beauty Bakerie Wake & Bake oil and even though it’s an oil, it’s targeted to all skin types! The too faced hangover primer is also an absolute gem✌
