Fragrance Favourites: My Perfume Collection

As you may be aware if you’re familiar with my blog, I have a huge love for perfume and I thought it would be a great idea to share my favourites with you! Due to the fact I worked for a beauty and fragrance company whilst studying at school, I was able to build up a pretty nice collection to last me a long time. Most of them are now beginning to run out, but the bottles are so pretty it’s difficult to part with them!

Before I begin my list of favourites, I will mention that I talk about ‘notes’ a lot in the description of each perfume. If you’re unsure as to what these are, they’re essentially just layers of scents that build up to create the overall fragrance. The top note is the first thing you smell when you spray the product and the alcohol begins to evaporate. It doesn’t last too long as the middle scent (or the ‘heart) does begin to seep through. This is where the majority of the scent is. In floral fragrances, the floral scents are usually based in the heart note, whilst the top note is typically more fruity. Finally, you have the bottom note – this is usually the scent that begins to seep through as you wear the perfume.

You may have noticed that advisors in a fragrance store recommend that you spray a perfume and walk around for a few minutes before smelling it on your skin and deciding whether you like it. This is to allow the alcohol to completely evaporate and the scent to mix with your skin and reveal its undertones!

So, with that in mind, behold my collection of fragrances! As always I will provide a link to each perfume at the bottom of this post, for you to find yourselves.

1. Giorgio Armani Si

This perfume is on the pricier side but it’s got a gorgeous scent to it. The Giorgio Armani Si rose signature is the limited edition women’s Si which has more floral notes to it. Both May rose and Turkish rose are used in the heart of this fragrance which gives it more of an intense scent, but the added vanilla tones it down so that it isn’t over-the-top. You’ll notice that the majority of my collection are floral perfumes because I think they create such a girly, feminine effect!

My favourite thing about Si is actually the bottle – the pink colour of the perfume itself was the first thing my eyes were drawn towards (sadly the pink colour goes away as you use it…). I also think the white ribbon and signature stamp add a really pretty touch and make the product look as expensive as the price tag!

2. Lacoste Eau de Lacoste Pour Femme

I also love this Lacoste pour femme bottle – it’s so simple yet so elegant! I like the ombre effect and the pretty little string charm adds a girly touch. If I remember correctly I believe the bottle is shaped purposely like a tennis ball, due to the sporting theme of the Lacoste brand.

I actually received this perfume as a gift from the company I worked for when I left and I use it as an everyday scent because it’s not overpowering. It’s got a sweet citrus note to it along with hints of fruit (pineapple and mandarin) and vanilla. It’s almost got a clean cotton-like scent, which is why it’s so refreshing and I use it so often (you can tell it sits in my handbag all the time from the state of it in the picture!).

I would definitely recommend it as a safe option for an everyday subtle perfume and it’s also not too pricey!

3. Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream Forever

I think the design of this bottle is one of my absolute favourites. It’s got SUCH a pretty blue floral design which covers the metallic-like lid and glass bottle. My boyfriend chose this for me for my birthday a couple of years ago and he got it so spot on! I fell in love straight away with both the look and scent of daisy dream.

The initial scent of this perfume is a mix of blackberry, pear and grapefruit which give a fruity hit, whilst the addition of blue wisteria and jasmine in the middle note tone it down to create a lovely floral fragrance. It’s absolutely one of my favourite perfumes that I’ve owned. The smell reminds me of happy summery days when I was in my teens so I like to wear it on days where I need a bit of a pick-me-up. Sadly it’s almost empty, but it’s one I’ll definitely be re-purchasing.

If you’re a floral-loving girl like me then this is definitely the first perfume I’d recommend to you!

4. Gucci Carolina Herrera 212 VIP

When I first tried this limited edition perfume I couldn’t decide how I felt about it. I think it was probably because it’s much more intense than the fragrances I usually go for and has a more ‘formal’ or ‘mature’ smell (if that makes any sense…). You only need a couple of sprays of this otherwise it could go overboard.

However, with time, I began to love the intense floral scent and I found myself getting a lot of compliments when I wore it! I would say it’s more of a sensual floral rather than a fresh floral as it’s got a bit more of a tang to it (can a perfume have a tang? That’s the only way I can think to describe it!) but I still love it.

This Gucci perfume contains grapefruit, pineapple and sun rose notes which combine to make a really lovely formal, feminine smell. The deepest base notes are more of a woody smell which is probably what creates the more intense sensual scent.

I usually wear it to work or to special occasions because it can be a little overwhelming when just worn casually.

5. Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire

This Guerlain perfume is also one of my favourite perfume bottle designs ever. How beautiful is it?! It’s a girly-girl’s dream. A lot of detail has been put into the design and it does pay off because it looks worthy of its high-end price. You can read a little more about this perfume in my ‘What’s in my Bag?‘ post.

This perfume was designed to be feminine and delicate. It contains a number of rose notes as well as a subtle raspberry scent which is claimed to be the note behind the seductive hint to the fragrance. It also has a slight woody scent in the bottom note which slowly intensifies as you wear it.

I would definitely say that this perfume can be used as an everyday scent, but due to the price I try to use it less often. It’s going to be very difficult for me to part with the bottle when it does eventually run out.

6. Hugo Boss The Scent for Her

This Hugo Boss for her perfume was featured in my ‘February Favourites‘ post recently as I have fallen completely in love with it.

The bottle is stunning – so much so, that I store it in its original box to avoid anything damaging it! That, and the box is my favourite shade of pink. It has quite a masculine design to it (the lid is supposed to resemble a cufflink) but the rose coloured perfume makes it much more feminine. I use this perfume sparingly as it is on the pricier side of the scale and was also a gift to me from my boyfriend last year.

This perfume, surprisingly, doesn’t actually sit in the floral scent family. It’s part of the oriental family. Whilst the top note contains freesia and honeyed peach, the heart note and base note are more intense and consist of osmanthus flower and cocoa. The selling point of The Scent for Her is that it is based upon three layers of seduction: attention, enticement and addiction.

Although this sounds a little different to the rest of my collection, I do still get a hint of floralcy in this fragrance and I’d definitely say it was feminine and not too intense. It really is a gorgeous smell!

7. Hugo Boss Boss Orange Sunset

As you can see, this bottle is virtually empty. I became obsessed with this Hugo Boss scent and wore it almost everyday for a long time! Although the bottle isn’t necessarily the most visually aesthetic perfume out there, it’s actually quite practical as it fits easily into a large makeup bag (which is part of the reason I used it so often).

This too contains ‘sensual’ notes to represent a passionate and expressive woman. The smell that comes through most is the orange floral scent. You can also clearly smell the sandalwood and vanilla base as the perfume settles into your skin. Hugo Boss use sandalwood in both their male and female fragrances and I think it creates the most wonderful smell.

If you’re wanting to try out Hugo Boss for the first time, but don’t want to splurge the cash, I’d recommend this. It’s very low on the Boss pricing scale and you can try it out in a 30ml bottle. Almost all Hugo Boss perfumes have a similar base scent in them so this will give you a good idea as to whether Boss is for you.

 

There you have it! My collection of much-loved perfumes. Although many of them are very similar, they all have their own distinct smell and I like to alternate between them depending on my mood and the occasion I’m getting ready for. I would recommend every one of them!
